Moxibustion Treatment
Moxibustion, commonly called moxa, is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that uses gentle heat to warm specific acupuncture points or areas of the body. Traditionally, moxa is made from dried mugwort leaves and has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries.
There are different ways to use moxa, including direct and indirect moxibustion. With indirect moxibustion, the burning moxa is held or placed near the skin so that warmth is felt without the moxa touching the skin. Direct moxibustion involves placing a small amount of moxa on or very close to the skin and should only be performed by a properly trained practitioner.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), moxa is used to warm the body, promote the flow of Qi and Blood, strengthen Qi and Yang, and help address patterns associated with cold. The gentle warmth of moxa can also provide a soothing and relaxing experience.
Moxa may be used on its own or together with acupuncture as part of an individualized treatment plan. It is traditionally used to support overall health and well-being and to help restore balance in the body.
