Deep tissue

Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements as Swedish massage, including stroking and kneading techniques, but generally involves firmer, more targeted pressure. The pressure is adjusted according to each person’s comfort level and treatment needs.

To reach deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, the massage therapist works gradually through the muscles using slow, controlled movements and sustained pressure. Techniques may involve the hands, fingers, knuckles, forearms, and elbows to target areas of muscle tension and tightness.

Deep tissue massage can help release areas of muscular tension and tightness, improve flexibility and mobility, and promote relaxation. It may also help increase local circulation, reduce muscle soreness and stiffness, and support the body’s natural recovery process.

Deep tissue massage may be especially helpful for people experiencing chronic muscle tension, overuse from work or physical activity, or tightness in areas such as the neck, shoulders, back, and legs.
